Suppression or even lack of acknowledgement of feelings Does it work?

Maybe in the short term you'll be ok, go for a walk, have a few beers, have sex, smoke some pot, these may in the short term detach you from your feelings, but the very next day in this busy , manic world those feelings will come back too haunt you. You need some source of higher power coupled with basic self acknowledgement of them too resolve them. Sure it may be painful in the short term, like getting a rotten tooth pulled but in the greater scheme of things you will be the winner.
